Floor & Wall Skimming in Cape Town

Preparing floors or walls for the next stage of finishing? We provide skimming for both, with the scope based on the existing surface and the finish you plan to apply.

In short

Skimming prepares a floor or a wall for the next stage of finishing. We provide floor skimming and wall skimming in Cape Town and the Western Cape, with the scope based on the existing surface and the finish you plan to apply. The two applications are quoted separately.

Options

Finishes and systems

Each option suits different spaces and appearances. Gloss level, decorative effect and slip resistance are separate considerations, not interchangeable.

Floor skimming

Applying a skim layer to a floor to create a smoother, more even base before a finish such as a coating or screed is applied.

Wall skimming

Applying a skim layer to a wall to even out the surface ahead of painting or another wall finish.

Suited to

Where this is used

  • Floors being prepared for a coating or screed
  • Walls being prepared for painting or finishing
  • Areas where the existing surface is uneven or patched
  • Renovations where a clean base is needed

Preparation

What we check first

Preparation is agreed before any finish is applied, because the result depends on the surface underneath.

  • The condition of the existing floor or wall is assessed before skimming is proposed.
  • Floor areas and wall areas are measured separately where both are involved.
  • The intended next finish is discussed, because it shapes how the skim should be prepared.
  • Drying and finishing times depend on the materials and site conditions.

Questions

Floor & Wall Skimming FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most about this service.

Do you skim both floors and walls?
Yes. We provide both floor skimming and wall skimming, quoted according to the areas involved and the condition of each surface.
Is skimming the same as plastering?
Skimming creates a thin, smooth layer to prepare a surface for the next finish. It is a preparation step rather than a full structural treatment, and we scope it against the existing surface.
Does skimming include painting?
No. Skimming prepares the surface for the finish you plan to apply, but painting and other finishing work are not included unless separately agreed and quoted.
How is floor and wall skimming quoted?
Because they are different applications, floor areas and wall areas are measured and quoted separately. The condition of each surface also affects the scope.
Do you skim floors and walls?
Yes. We provide both floor skimming and wall skimming. Because they are different applications, the areas are measured and quoted separately, and the scope depends on the condition of each surface.
