Concrete work is often described under one broad heading, but the three services we offer do different jobs. Understanding the difference helps you ask for what you actually need.
New concrete floor installation
This is about creating the floor itself. A new concrete floor is placed and finished as part of a project. If you are building or extending, this is likely the starting point.
Concrete grinding
Grinding uses abrasive tooling to level, clean or prepare a concrete surface. It is common as preparation: a floor is ground so that a coating, screed or another finish bonds properly. It can also address surface unevenness within limits.
Grinding is closely tied to our floor preparation and renovation work, where the groundwork before a finish is the whole point of the job.
Concrete polishing
Polishing refines the concrete surface through progressive stages to produce a smooth, finished floor. The sheen develops as the process goes on rather than being added on top.
Which one do you need?
- Building a new floor? You likely need installation.
- Preparing an existing floor for a coating or screed? You likely need grinding as preparation.
- Wanting a finished exposed concrete look? You are asking about polishing.
It is also common for these to combine. A floor might be ground and then polished, or ground and then coated.
What we cannot promise in advance
Not every existing floor can achieve a particular polished finish. The slab itself, including its hardness and what is in the mix, affects the result. We assess the actual surface before advising on what is realistic, and we will say so if a finish cannot be confirmed without inspection.
